If you’re looking to hire a domestic helper, a transfer maid can be a great option. Unlike new helpers from overseas, transfer maids are already in Singapore and looking for a new employer. They know the local culture, understand household routines, and often have useful experience. You can meet them in person before deciding, and since they’re already here, they can start work much faster. This makes hiring a transfer maid quicker, simpler, and often more affordable.
As an employer, you need to discuss all employment details and conduct an interview with the helper. Once both parties reach an agreement, you must submit an application to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) before the helper can start work. To transfer a helper directly, both the current and new employers must complete certain steps.
For Current Employer:
- Send the helper for her 6-monthly medical examination if it is due.
- Approve the transfer request from the new employer on the MOM website.
- Pay the levy up to the date the new employer issues the helper’s new work permit.
- Cut and discard the cancelled work permit card once the helper is transferred.
For New Employer:
- Check that the helper’s 6-monthly medical exam is done and her work permit is valid for at least 30 days.
- Obtain approval from the current employer for the helper’s transfer.
- Submit a transfer application on the MOM website.
- Purchase a new Security Bond and Medical and Personal Accident Insurance for the helper.
- Complete the declaration form and issue the new Work Permit on the transfer date.
-
Note:
The new Work Permit must be issued by the earlier of 21 days from approval or the current Work Permit’s expiry date to avoid an overstaying fine.
